Please read these rules before registering your account. Please pm the admin (Belladonna) if you have any concerns.
1. Your display name must be one word only. If your display name does not comply with this rule, you will be requested to change it via ‘modify profile’ to edit it.
2. Your character/staff application must be approved of before you can do anything else. You may not post threads, reply to any thread, or start RPing until we've approved your application. You are permitted to pm the Shades staff, however, for help.
3. Stay in character when RPing. If you want to comment on the previous post or something, do so before your post with the letters OOC (Out of Character) inside of parenthesis. For example: (OOC: I didn't know Person A had blonde hair). Skip a line and begin your post.
4. Your RP posts must be at a minimum of 10 sentences. 10 sentences is at the bare minimum. We encourage at least 20 sentences, but that is not required. If your post does not exceed 9 sentences, we will add a note at the top of your post as well as sending a pm. If not modified for 7 days, it will be deleted. We require this because it is very difficult to respond to a one sentence or excessively brief post.
5. Role-play in third person limited. This means that you may not use the words “I”, “me”, “my”, etc. unless the character is thinking. RP as though you were observing the scene, but please concentrate only on your character. For exceptions to this rule, please see Rule #8.
6. No double posting. Double posting is when you post twice in a row. Not only is that annoying to read, but it's also completely unnecessary. If you want to add or edit something, please modify your post instead. If you double post, we'll either modify it for you or just delete the extra post depending on our patience and time. However, double posting is allowed only in certain OoC threads.
7. Try posting without grammatical errors. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but readable. If possible, please open up Microsoft Word or any other document editor program and utilize the handy ‘spell-check’ function.
8. Do not god-mod. God-modding is when you control another character’s actions that are not your own. Never do this – especially if you don’t have the other person’s consent to. Instead of something like “Person A shoved Person B and caused him to fall sprawling onto the floor,” use “Person A shoved Person B with intent to make him sprawled on the floor.” Maybe Person B is stronger than Person A and won’t fall. But if you’re having a conversation and you want to include what the other person did or their actions, put it in bold font. But these must be exact quotes. If you want to edit the quotes, please use [ and ] around the extra words. Use the code before Person B’s dialogues/actions and the code after.
9. Don’t give away main plot relevant information. If the information you know of has not yet been disclosed to the public, please do not give it away. Only discuss these issues with others you are certain know it too. Otherwise, your position in the plot may be forfeit. For example, if you are a member of TDA, you’re not permitted to tell non-TDA members who else is in your group.
10. Advertise your forum in the Affiliates or Advertisements boards only. Please do not do so in any other board; your post will be deleted. Also please don’t spam pm other members about your forum. Your account here may be forfeit if you do so. It’s just so annoying.
11. Do not title your threads in ALL CAPS. It's distracting and too attention-getting. If your threads are posted in ALL CAPS, you will either be requested to delete it and re-do the title, or one of the staff members will do it for you.
12. Do not claim other members’ works as your own. You may not say you have created a table/signature if it was made for you by someone else. Claiming credit that belongs to others can result in being temporarily banned, positions stripped of, or a deletion of account.
